On this day in...

2008 - Petr Sykora scored with 10:03 left into the third overtime to push the Penguins past the Red Wings to stave-off elimination in Game 5 of the final. Detroit leads the series, three games to two. (Game ended on June 3)

2009 - Maxime Talbot scored twice and Sergei Gonchar's powerplay goal in the third period proved to be the winner as the Pens took Game 3 in the Stanley Cup Final from the Detroit Red Wings, 4-2. Detroit led the series, 2-1.

2009 - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hockey writer Dave Molinari was honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Elmer Ferguson Award.
